BACKGROUND
One of the aims of our Missions Board is to actively participate and support overseas missions work and also the equipping of mission workers. In recent years, the Missions Committee has been on the lookout to explore new avenues for missions and to expand and widen our scope of ministry overseas. Specifically, one of our main goals is to be involved with ministry among youths and students.

From 2005 to 2006, we had a student from TTC attached to our English Service, Temsu ienba Longkumar. Temsu is from Nagaland, a state in India. He returned to India in May 2006 and is now working with youths and university students in New Delhi. Before his departure, he had approached the pastors of Singapore Life Church (SLC) to see if the church can support him in his ministry.

Sometime in July 2006, Temsu wrote about his mission observations on Delhi Ao Naga Church and made a proposal for SLC to support him financially in his ministry. After much deliberations and discussions, the Missions Committee felt that this is an open door and a good opportunity for us to explore further. This is also in line with our objective to develop new mission fields. With this in mind, the Committee decided to send Rev Tan and Pastor Tang to make an exploratory trip to New Delhi.

OBJECTIVE OF TRIP
The main objective of the trip was to look into the possibility of partnership with Temsu and Delhi Ao Naga Church. We wanted to see the work there first hand and to meet and fellowship with the church leaders. It is our hope also to see if we can ultimately adopt India as one of our mission fields where we can send mission team there.

REPORT OF TRIP
Rev Tan Gark Chye and Pr Tang Khoon Hoe were in New Delhi from 26 Feb to 2 Mar 07. During the 3 days there, we visited ˇ°Delhi Ao Naga Churchˇ±.

Delhi Ao Naga church is made up mainly of nationals from the tribe of Ao in Nagaland. The Indian state of Nagaland is located in the extreme north eastern part of India. It has a population of 2 million, of which 90% are Christians. As more and more professionals and students are coming to the capital for work and study, the vision of the church is to reach out to these university students and young adults, not only to provide them with a place for worship and fellowship but also to equip and guide them to be Christ-centred, Bible based and diligent in evangelism and mission.

During our stay, we visited 6 different cell group locations and had a great time of fellowship with some of the young adults. Ao Naga Church also organised a special service on 28 Feb where Pastor Tang spoke on ˇ°Do Something or Do Nothingˇ± based on Mark 2:1-11. A special meeting was arranged for SLC representatives to meet up with the Deacon Board and some of the other church leaders for dialogue and vision sharing.

PROPOSAL
The goals and objectives of Delhi Ao Naga church are similar to ours. Their ministry to university students and young adults is also the target group that SLC would like to reach out to. This age group has tremendous potential to be used by God to further His kingdom and as future leaders among their community. Our partnership will widen our field of ministry overseas. Our congregation will be exposed to missions in a different culture and gain a broader perspective of what God is doing in other parts of the world.
The partnership will be mutually beneficial to both churches.

The Mission Committee proposed various ways in which SLC can partner with Delhi Ao Naga Church through Temsu :

Financial Support

In principle, SLC agrees to financially support Temsu to work as the Youth pastor in Delhi Ao Naga Church for the next 5 years.

Short Mission Trips

SLC is very keen to bring the Discipleship Leadership Training Program (DLTP) to Delhi Ao Naga Church. This teaching program is very Bible centred and has 8 modules. Each module consists of 4 lessons. We hope to send mission team in the near future to teach this program in Ao Naga Church.

CONCLUSION
SLC is glad to be in partnership with Delhi Ao Naga Church in India. The trip has been both enriching and worthwhile. We will consider sending a mission team to India in 2008.
